St. Joan of Arc Football Coach Wins 100th Game

Coach Dennis Shubnell won his 100th game last Saturday as the coach of St. Joan of Arc's football team, and returns to the sidelines today for a game against Our Lady of the Lakes.

St. Joan of Arc's football team win this past week over Marist Academy was historic for two different reasons.

It was the first home night game for the Chargers, and it was the 100th victory for head football coach Dennis Shubnell.

"Dennis doesn't care about numbers," said St. Joan of Arc athletic director Don Pomaville. "He does this for the kids."

Shubnell has been with the program for nearly 30 years, and 24 years as the head coach of the varsity team, according to Pomaville. The win brought his career record to 100-79-1.

The varsity football game came after a weekend full of events which included soccer games under the lights donated by a construction company.

"It was a weekend to remember," said Pomaville, who would consider doing it again. "We'll talk to our neighbors ... We would hopefully make it an annual event."

While the victory was historic, Shubnell didn't have much time to celebrate. He had to prepare for today's game at Our Lady of the Lakes.
