South Lake Students Skype with LeVar Burton, Astronaut

During an over-the-web conversation students from South Lake Middle School spoke with LeVar Burton and astronaut Ricky Arnold.

A group of students got a unique opportunity Friday during a Skpe conversation with editor Edward Cardenas, who was participating in a NASA  tweetup for the final space shuttle mission.

Cardenas spoke to two of teacher Karen Sahadi's seventh grade science classes by the online video messaging service Skype, while he sat just a short distance from NASA's coundtown clock before the eventually scuttled launch.

After they spoke about spoke about the upcoming space shuttle mission, the amount of fuel it takes to get into space and what kind of food astronauts eat from, astronaut Ricky Arnold jumped on the call and greeted the students.

A few moments later, actor LeVar Burton, who was also attending the tweetup, emerged from a media area and introduced himself to the students and jokingly asked them if they were ready for summer.

While they were not sure who he was at first, Burton, who starred on Star Trek: The Next Generation and the PBS show Reading Rainbow, was still greeted with cheers and a wave of hands from students in the camera.
