Signs Show Cavalier Pride

South Lake High School sells "Proud to be a Cavalier" the main office.

Members of the South Lake Schools community now have a new way to show off their school spirit.

The district’s high school is selling lawn signs that read, “Proud to be a South Lake Cavalier.”

The sale is a fundraiser for South Lake High’s School Improvement Team.

The signs are $10 each and they include the metal stakes for easy placement in the lawn. But the signs can also be displayed anywhere, not just on a lawn, said Beth Welles, chair of the School Improvement Team. The metal stakes can easily be removed so the signs can be displayed in a classroom, office or window.

“The School Improvement Team works on school accreditation goals, and proceeds from the fundraiser go to support those goals and general improvements in the school,” Welles said.

Funds raised from the sale of the signs will also be used to improve the school climate and pride by purchasing school banners and character-education materials.

The School Improvement Team, comprised of various members of the school community, also used its funds to sponsor an innovative educational activity called Mosaic Day.

“Mosaic Day is a day in which teachers teach classes on an interest of their own, and students sign up for those classes,” Welles said. “Examples include Zumba (exercise class), gardening, cooking, scrapbooking, karate, jewelry making and comic design.”

The South Lake School Improvement Team began its sale with a supply of 200 Cavalier pride signs. Welles said if the signs prove to be popular and sell out, the team may reorder more.

The “Proud to be a South Lake Cavalier” signs may be purchased anytime during the school day (7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.) in the main office of South Lake High School. Order forms are also available in each of South Lake’s schools. For more information, please e-mail bwelles@solake.org
