Last Chance: Vote for Student Produced Public Service Announcements

Middle and high schools students from St. Clair Shores produced public service announcements on "Teen Prescription Drug Abuse in our Community" and are competing against each other to win prizes.

A short time remains to cast select the top student produced public service announcements on “Teen Prescription Drug Abuse in our Community.”

Students in the 6th-12th grades created the videos earlier this spring for the contest sponsored by the Shores Network for Action and Prevention. The 30-second videos were then posted on the Shores Network for Action and Prevention Facebook page.

Visitors can vote for their favorite for the opportunity to win prizes of $400 for first-place, $200 for second place.

The prizes will be awarded during the at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview’s Schaublin Auditorium.

The meeting also features a presentation for parents, grandparents, students, educators and members of the community by Dr. Mark Menestrina, a National Field Medical Advisor for Reckitt Becnkiser Pharmaceuticals and Medical Director of Southeast Michigan Community Alliance. Over the past 20 years he has been involved in the care of over 20,000 chemically dependent patients and their families and is frequent presenter at schools, community events and has appeared on FOX 2 News and WJR 760 AM Radio.

Dr. Menestrina will be speaking about what members of can do to prevent youth and young adults from abusing prescription drugs.
