Lakeview Distributes Thanksgiving Baskets

Students and teachers with the Huskies With Heart collected items for 81 Thanksgiving baskets distributed to Lakeview High School families.

The Lakeview  community outreach organization brought the district together to collect items for Thanksgiving baskets that were distributed to local families.

Classrooms at the  sponsored baskets along with the board of education, counseling department and central office personnel. Students also donated $400 during lunch for the baskets.

Huskies With Heart collected enough food for 81 baskets, and an additional 40 pounds of food, which was added to the baskets. Sponsors also included a personal card with each basket.

Families from the Lakeview community received their baskets Tuesday and Wednesday.

The organization, which is comprised of students, teachers, parents and members of the community, are also conducting lending their service to these projects:

  • Collecting gently used cell phones for a "Cell Phones for Soldiers" campaign. The cell phones will be sent to the non-profit organization by the same name where they will be cleared of any personal information and recycled. The collection runs until Dec. 15.
  • Assisting the St. Clair Shores Optimists at the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 2.
  • Wrapping gifts for Cops for Kids on Dec. 10 at  Church. 
  • A Charity Week in February 2012 to raise money for the children's hospital at Beaumont Royal Oak which will include an overnight dance marathon.
