Lake Shore Football and Great Dane Award A.C.T Award

Lake Shore senior Ethan Slabaugh has received the Shorians' Academics, Citizenship and Team award sponsored by Great Dane Heating & Air Conditioning in Clinton Township.

Slabaugh, who is carrying a 3.9 grade point average, has applied at Oakland University, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan, recently received the $500 scholarship from Great Dane owner Josh Bigelow.

"It is an honor to receive a scholarship for my academics and being able to play football while doing it," said Slabaugh, 17, of Fraser, who plans to enroll in the nursing program at the college he attends. 

According to head football coach Tom Iwanicki, said Slabaugh received the scholarship for his achievement in the classroom, work outside the classroom and skills on the football field. Slabaugh was a wide receiver who also played defense who led the team in sacks.

For Bigelow, the scholarship is a way to give back to the community. 

"I've got kids going through the schools, and I just wish somebody would do the same for my kids if they had the opportunity," he said.
