Day-Poljanac Fires Up Lake Shore

Lake Shore senior Courtney Day-Poljanac is a focused athlete and encouraging leader for the Shorians' Cheer Team.

Courtney Day-Poljanac is serious about school spirit.

The senior cheerleader has shared her enthusiasm and personality with the Shorians for four years and brings the unique combination of intensity and humor at just the right times.

"Courtney is definately a leader by example on our team," Lake Shore varsity cheer coach Sherri Taormina said. "During practice, she can be very intense and focused. She takes conditioning and skill building very seriously, yet she is also a person that can bring comedic relief right when we need it."

The four-year varsity team member is commited to helping younger athletes to strengthen the team as a whole.

"She has a strong work ethic and is very suppportive and encouraging to her teammates," said Taormina. "She has offered to help new cheerleaders work on material and make them field comfortable and welcomd into the program. This is something we neeed on our team as we are looking towards improving our athleticism this year. We are focusing on strengthening our stunting and tumbling skills and eventually the ultimate goal of sanctioning MHSAA competitive cheer next school year."

Day-Poljanac's spirit help lift the Shorians to a 26-7 victory over Lakeview Friday night.

"I love my teammates," said Day-Poljanac. "We are like a family."
