Community Rallies for Hospitalized Lakeview Graduate

Classmates, teachers and other members of the community gathered Wednesday for a candlelight vigil and rally for Zach Howell, Lakeview class of 2012, who had a brain tumor removed this weekend.

The athletic field at was illuminated by hundreds of candles held by students, teachers and members of the Board of Education for a candlelight vigil and rally for Zach Howell.

The 17-year-old, who was active in the Lakeview band, school  and graduated in June, had a brain tumor removed over the weekend.

His relatives said the vivacious, positive and outgoing teen was camping when he began experiencing headaches.

He returned home and went to a local emergency room, where doctors determined he had a brain tumor and removed it Sunday, his aunt Christina LePard said at the rally.

"We are all fighting with him," LePard told the crowd. "I can't see how he can't win."

She added that Zach is in good spirits, and his family will update his status on his Facebook page.
