In Photos: Avalon Celebrates Arbor Day With St. Clair Shores
The Avalon Elementary School community came together Friday morning to plant three Cleveland Pear trees in the schoolyard.
Students from Avalon Elementary Schools gathered in their schoolyard Friday morning to plant three Cleveland Pear trees with the assistance of Department of Public Works employees.
The planting was part of Arbor Day festivities in the city, and was recognized with a proclamation for the school from St. Clair Shores.
Bryan Babcock, St. Clair Shores Public Works Director, spoke with the schoolchildren about the importance of trees to the environment and the community.

"We will care for, nurture and appreciate these trees for years to come," said Jeanne Poleski, Avalon principal.
Babcock added that residents can purchase trees from an approved list of trees that are not known to cause raised sidewalks or root problems. The cost for each tree is $225 and may be purchased at the Cashier's Department in . For a list of approved trees, visit the city website.
