The Chargers of St Isaac Jogues Played The Cubs of U of D Jesuit Academy Under The Lights

The Chargers and the Cubs put their matching 3 and 1 record2 on the line Sunday under the lights at Lakeview High School

The St. Isaac Jogues Chargers and the U of D Jesuit Academy Cubs Varsity
Football Teams squared off under the lights Sunday at Lakeview High School. Both teams came into the game with a 3-1 record and were looking to improve to 4-1. These two teams looked to be evenly matched and we were anticipating a close contest right down to the wire.

The Chargers won the coin toss, elected to receive and didn’t waste any time scoring as Scott Nelson, number 10, returned the opening kick 70-yards for a touchdown. Nelson, who is also the holder for the extra point attempts, couldn’t get the ball down in time for the kick. He recovered well completing a pass to Joe Lietzow, number 7, good for a point and brought the score 7-0 in favor of the Chargers.

Still in the first quarter, the Cubs answered with a touchdown of their own but were not able to convert the extra point. The score was 7-6 Chargers.

Living up to its billing, the Chargers number 10, Scott Nelson, carried the ball 75 yards for a touchdown. The "Golden Foot" John Lizza split the uprights to make the score Chargers 15 Cubs 6.

But the Cubs did not let the score stay that way for long, as they quickly answered with a touchdown and extra point just before the end of the first quarter, Chargers 15 Cubs 13.

The second quarter proved to be all Chargers with two more touchdowns - a 40-yard run by number 5, Joe Charrette, and Nelson, saw pay dirt from the nine-yard line with 2:36 left in the half. Thanks to the constant long snaps from number 63, Brett Bresko, John Lizza was able to covert both the extra points. At the half the score was the Chargers of St Isaac Jogues 31 and the Cubs of U of D Jesuit Academy 13.

Both teams made defensive adjustments that proved to be too much for both offences. The score remained unchanged and the Chargers improve on the season to 4-1.

This was a great show of sportsmanship by both teams’ players, coaches and fans. Thank you to Cubs of U of D Jesuit Academy and good luck to you in the rest of your season.
