Strong Turnout for General Election in St. Clair Shores

Nearly 70 percent of registered voters cast votes Tuesday in the general election.

The St. Clair Shores City Clerk reported Wednesday a "successful" general election with nearly 70 percent of registered voters casting ballots.

According to unofficial results, there was a 69 percent turnout of eligible voters on Election Day. The office also issued 10,401 ballots, with 98 percent returned and counted on Election Day.

"We had a very good election, taking into account the long ballots. It
could take a voter from 5-15 minutes to cast a ballot," City Clerk Mary A. Kotowski wrote in an email. "My workers and city departments did an outstanding job to help us run a successful presidential election.

While the turnout was strong, it was not greater than the 2008 presidential election. In the last presidential election, 72.5 percent of registered voters cast their ballots in St. Clair Shores.
