Rider Injured on Ferris Wheel at St. Joan Festival

A girl riding the Ferris wheel Friday at the St. Joan of Arc Spring Festival was injured when a bolt came loose and cut her head.

The Ferris wheel at the was temporarily shut down Friday after a bolt came loose and struck a rider in the head. 

The girl, whose age was not released, received a cut to her head, according to Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin. 

She was treated at the scene, said Bugarin, and North American Midway shut down the ride.

Independent inspectors from the midway company and the state inspected the ride before resuming operations.

A message was left with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for comment about the incident.

Bugarin stated that the incident was an "accident" and stated that all the rides undergo a thorough inspection by midway personnel and independent inspectors.
