Company Planning Movie Theater in St. Clair Shores Requests Rezoning

A company proposing a new movie theater at 12 Mile and Little Mack is requesting a rezoning for the property from the St. Clair Shores Planning Commission.

A company planning a movie theater in St. Clair Shores is asking the city to rezone property at 12 Mile and Little Mack.

Shores Associates LLC is requesting to rezone the property from office to general business use for the theater. The property currently includes a partially-occupied strip mall and vacant land.

The St. Clair Shores Planning Commission will consider the request June 12.

City officials, and possible developers, have remained mum about the project, but City Manager Ben Hughes did confirm negotiations were on-going.

"We are in discussions with a movie theater company for the possible construction of a theater at the southeast intersection of 12 Mile and Little Mack," said Hughes.

Officials would not reveal the name of the theater company, but Emagine Entertainment officials did confirm to " 

The rezoning request, and meeting announcement, was published in a local newspaper.

Emagine Entertainment initially had considered to build in Grosse Pointe, but withdrew  shopping district.

Paul A. Glantz, founder and chairman of Emagine Entertainment, Inc. told Patch Wednesday that his company is looking to build a 12- to 14-screen theater. This would be the first Emagine theater in Macomb County, but will be similar to the Emagine Theater in  or . 

Earlier this week, a deal to bring  at the Harper and Nine Mile Road was announced and developers recently erected a sign at the location looking for co-tenants for the development.

"These two developments confirm that St. Clair Shores has terrific momentum," said Hughes, who added that the city being noticed by developers. "This momentum will help us as we are continuing our efforts to bring a hotel to St. Clair Shores and other developments that will make our city even more attractive to young professionals and families."
