News Brief: Forlini Brings Together Leaders for Lake Meeting

City and state leaders meet to discuss beach closings and the buildup of muck along the waterfront.

State Rep. Anthony Forlini spoke recently with state and local officials about water quality and minimizing beach closings along Lake St. Clair.

Forlini discussed opportunities for grant funding and water pollution sources with St. Clair Shores Mayor Bob Hison, City Manager Ben Hughes and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality toxicologists Shannon Briggs, Andrew Hartz and Bretton Joldersma.

Forlini said the participants in the meeting shared ideas focused on improving the Lake St. Clair Sub-Watershed Management Plan.

"Our lakes are a precious gem to our community," said Forlini, R-Harrison Township. "In order to effectively showcase the opportunities the Lake St. Clair region presents both to tourism and job providers, we must ensure our waters are managed responsibly. I look forward to maintaining close contact with local officials to make sure they receive the help they need."

Forlini will also be working with local water experts to acquire DNA testing to determine the content of  on local shorelines.
