Macomb to Honor First Responders in 9/11 Ceremony

A ceremony will be held tonight at the Macomb Fallen Heroes Memorial in Mount Clemens to honor the 29 local police, fire and emergency medical technicians who died in the line of duty.

Macomb County police, fire and emergency medical technicians who died in the line of duty will be honored at 7 p.m. tonight during a ceremony at the Macomb Fallen Heroes Memorial in Mount Clemens.

The annual ceremony will be held in front of the Macomb County Courthouse at 40 N. Main in Mount Clemens and will include speeches from Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, along with a presentation of the flag by Honor Guard Captain Kevin Witherspoon.

The memorial was dedicated on Sept. 11, 2010, and a ceremony has been held annually on 9/11 to honor those who gave their lives serving the residents of Macomb County.

Following the ceremony, a booklet created by historian Cynthia Donahue will be available with a history of each person listed on the memorial that includes not only how they died, but how they lived, and their survivors.
