City Sued Over Cost of Emails

The Macomb Daily reports that a lawsuit has been filed in Macomb Circuit Court over the costs of obtaining St. Clair Shores City Council emails from the city.

The St. Clair Shores Police Officers Association has filed a lawsuit against the city in Macomb Circuit Court over the cost of obtaining emails.

The Macomb Daily reported that the union alleged St. Clair Shores overcharged to obtain city council emails through a Freedom of Information Act request, and too much information was redacted in the emails supplied to the police officers.

“I don’t expect the citizens to bear the burden of the cost; we certainly want to pay our fair share,” union president Gary Crandall told the paper. “But they shouldn’t be charging the absolute highest they can possibly charge.”

City Attorney Robert Ihrie countered their argument.

"The city believes it has appropriately charged fees according to the law," he said. "None of the city attorney’s fees have been passed on to the union.

"I am sure the court will make the proper determination as to what charges are permitted," Ihrie said.
