Hackel offered his support to St. Clair Shores and will use his office to help market the county and the lake.

Proclamations were given to Marissa Cowan, Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen 2011, and to honor Constitution Week September 17-23.

Approval was given to the Lac Ste Claire Fine Art Fair at Veterans Memorial Park Sept. 17-18, and the Lac Ste. Claire Kiwanis to hold a St. Clair Shores Fun Fest and Appreciation Day Sept. 24.

Powerhouse Gym was given permission to operate 24 hours a day.

Charlie's Restaurant received approval for a second story addition and enclosure of existing outdoor seating.

Council also approved the site plan for an addition to a former salon at 31245 Harper for a new dental office.

Discussion has begun to consider a contract with VCA Animal Hospital as a third party contractor for animals at large during non-business hours.

9:17 p.m.

Council votes to have the city attorney review the language of the agreement with VCA Animal Hospital before entering into a six-month trial.

9:23 p.m.

Council approves the permanent relocation of Precinct 20 from Taylor School to St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church. The move is needed because Taylor School will become the dormitory for the Mandarin program at Lake Shore.

10:32 p.m.

Council comments conclude. Discussions included:

  • The return of Meals on Wheels and the nutritional lunch program to Leisure Manor;
  • The possibility of the elimination of the personal property tax by the state for local communities which could cost the Shores $1.2 million
  • Lakeview Public School gave the city the wrong amount for summer tax bills and charged residents 1 mill too high. Residents will be notified and adjustments will be made to 2012 tax bill.
