Ballot Set for November Mayor and Council Election

Voters narrow the field of candidates for the November general election for mayor and city council.

Two current members of St. Clair Shores City Council received the most votes in Tuesday's primary election.

The top two candidates in the mayoral primary, and the six highest city council candidates primary, will advance to November's general election.

Kip Walby received the most votes in the mayoral primary, and the largest number of votes in the election.

Ronald J. Frederick received the greatest number of votes of the 10 candidates in the city council primary.

"I appreciate the support from the people. It has been great to get it in the past and I hope I have it in the general," said Walby, who was surrounded by family at as the results came in. "It is only the primary. There is a lot of work left to do to still become the mayor of St. Clair Shores."

Walby, a property/casualty broker, will run against Nate Kaczmarek, a senior associate attorney at Kitch Drutchas Wagner Valitutti & Sherbrook, in the general election.

"Tonight was round one ... I look forward to start tomorrow on round two," said Kaczmarek, who complimented Walby and Karla Anderson on running a "strong and clean" campaign.

"I am grateful to the residents of St. Clair Shores for coming out and showing their support," he added.

Nearly 16 percent of registered voters in St. Clair Shores turned out for the election, or 7,581 of 48,295 registered voters cast ballots. 

Fredrick will be joined in the general election by Anthony Tiseo, Chris Vitale, Jack Downey, John Burtch and Chuck Hall.

Voters will return to the polls on Nov. 8 for the general election where candidate will be selected as the new mayor of St. Clair Shores, and three members of council will be elected.
