Man Faces Robbery Charge After Shores-Pointes Police Chase

A Garden City resident has been arraigned after police said he robbed an 85-year-old woman in a St. Clair Shores Kroger parking lot and led authorities on a multi-city pursuit spanning Grosse Pointe Shores to Grosse Pointe Park.

A 27-year-old Garden City man who police said robbed a senior citizen Monday at the Kroger on 9 Mile in St. Clair Shores and led police on a multi-city chase has been arraigned and is being held in the Macomb County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Luke Alan Underhill was arraigned Wednesday in 40th District Court on one count of unarmed robbery for allegedly robbing an 85-year-old woman in the parking lot of a St. Clair Shores Kroger.

Police said Underhill and a second man were lying in wait about 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the grocery store on 9 Mile Road. Once they spotted the woman, they backed their car into a spot next to hers and then slammed open their car door into hers, investigators report.

When she got out to check the damage to her car, they robbed her and fled.

Grosse Pointe Shores police spotted the car at Vernier and Lake Shore and began a pursuit that passed through nearly every one of the Pointes. The passenger jumped out of the car and was later arrested. The driver was arrested in Grosse Pointe Park.

Underhill was also charged with three additional counts of possession of financial transaction device. St. Clair Shores police continue their investigation.

Additional charges may be brought in Wayne County against Underhill and his passenger.

The senior who was robbed was not injured, according to St. Clair Shores Detective Dennis Kozikowski.
