St. Clair Shores Receives New Pumps to Fight Marina Fires

The St. Clair Shores Fire Department recently used a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant to purchased three floating pumps to fight blazes in marinas and other areas in the city.

The St. Clair Shores Fire Department recently received three new pumps which will help fire blazes in marinas and other waterfront areas in the city.

The city recently used a Department of Homeland Security Port Security grant to purchase three Floto-pumps, nozzles and 300-feet of hose.

Fire fighters can place these floating pumps into the water at marinas, and other waterfront areas including canals with limited access for fire fighting vehicles, to draw water to fight blazes.

According to Training Officer Jesse Thompson, the pumps and other items were purchased with a 100 percent reimbursable grant.

The three pumps will be placed on the department's front-line fire engines, and replace existing pumps that are nearly 20-years-old.
