St. Clair Shores Police to Enforce Seat Belt Use with Extra Road Patrols

Buckle up, St. Clair Shores, seat belt safety zones are now in effect.

St. Clair Shores Police are joining the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and other local police departments in stepping up their patrols over the next two weeks.

With the launch of the national Click It or Ticket campaign on May 21, St. Clair Shores Police will have extra road patrols in established enforcement zones during the campaign. 

"Our goal is to make sure everyone is as compliant as possible," said St. Clair Shores Police Lt. Steve Lambert.

In St. Clair Shores, enforcement zones include 9 Mile and Harper, 10 Mile and Harper and 12 Mile and Harper.

"The Click It or Ticket campaign is one of the reasons Michigan has always been a leader in reducing traffic fatalities through a high seat belt use rate," said Michael L. Prince, Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) director, on the OHSP website. "Since their introduction, seat belts have saved lives, and we want people to take advantage of this simple yet effective safety device."

Michigan law requires that all drivers and passengers age 15 and younger be buckled up, regardless of seating position. Children must be in a car seat or booster seat until they are 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall.

St. Clair Shores, other Macomb County departments and the Sheriff’s Office will continue their increased patrols through June 3. The additional hours and manpower required during the Click It or Ticket campaign is supported with federal traffic safety funds, administered by OHSP.
