St. Clair Shores Police Sergeants to Retire

St. Clair Shores police sergeants Thomas Hannon and John Bowers are retiring from the department.

Two members of the St. Clair Shores Command Officers Association will be retiring this month from the St. Clair Shores Police Department.

Sergeants Thomas Hannon and John Bowers are the latest to take advantage of an offered by the city. Hannon is retiring this week, and Bowers will be retiring next week, according to city officials.

St. Clair Shores hoped to realize about $340,000 in savings through the 2014-2015 budget year through the retirements and the hiring of officers who recently graduated from the police academy or recently were laid off from other departments.

Under the proposal approved by council, officers hired between Jan. 26, 1987, and July 28, 1990, can purchase service time to obtain 25 years of service between Nov. 1, 2011, and May 31, 2012.

The employees who want to participate can purchase time at 5 percent of their annual base wage for each year of service, and submit an irrevocable notice requesting to purchase time and set their date of retirement by Dec. 31, 2011.
