St. Clair Shores Police Involved in a Pair of Chases

The following information was supplied by the St. Clair Shores police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

St. Clair Shores police were involved in a pair of chases through the city, and neighboring cities Aug. 4.

The first incident occurred about 9 a.m. Aug 4 at 11 Mile and I-94. An officer on patrol attempted to stop a Honda, but the car exited 11 Mile and continued westbound on 11 Mile. The car sped up and ran the red light at Gratiot and reentered I-696 before exiting at Groesbeck. The chase continued into the neighborhoods before the car crashed the vehicle into a fence. The 21-year-old Detroit resident attempted to hide, but was discovered by police. The man was arrested for fleeing police.

The second incident occurred about 11 p.m. Aug. 4 at Masonic and Harper. An officer stopped a Jeep Cherokee after it made a left turn on a red light on Masonic. An officer approached the driver, who said she did not have her license. She was asked to turn the vehicle off. She refused and started to drive in reverse. A male and female passenger got out and told her not to drive off, and according to a report, said "I'm not doing that." She put the car in drive and pulled forward, almost striking the officer. A chase ensued, reaching nearly 70 miles per hour southbound on Harper before she led the officer onto 13 Mile. It continued on Gratiot into Clinton Township to Metro Parkway, to Harper and to 15 Mile, where Roseville police laid down stop strips. A tire was punctured, but she continued driving through Roseville and into Warren where she came to a stop at the emergency entrance of St. John Hospital Macomb. Officers attempted to arrest her, but she complained of having a heart attack. One of the officers asked her if she was having a heart attack, why was she smoking a cigarette during the pursuit. The 39-year-old from St. Clair Shores was arrested for fleeing or eluding police, obstructing police and a warrant arrest.
