St. Clair Shores Police and Fire Offer Tips to Stay Safe

From cooking to travel, personnel from St. Clair Shores police and fire departments offer tips for a safe Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving holiday is almost here. While the long weekend may be filled with family gatherings and celebrations, police Community Resource Officer Cherie Mascarello and Chief George Morehouse offer the following tips to enjoy the festivities:

  • When leaving home, lock the doors and leave lights on.
  • Do not post your location on social media sites which may let others know your home is unoccupied.
  • Designate a driver if you plan on drinking.
  • Be mindful of exhaustion and do not drive long distance if you are tired.
  • Only use turkey fryers outside, away from buildings.
    • Measure oil and do not overfill the fryer to ensure there will not be an overflow once the turkey is added.
    • Do not place an unthawed turkey in the fryer.
    • Keep a fire extinguisher near for emergencies.
  • For any emergency, call 911.
