St. Clair Shores Fire Dept. Responds to Blaze Started by Lightning

Lightning struck a house on Detour Saturday night, starting a fire which damaged the structure.

St. Clair Shores firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in a home in the 22700 block of Detour Saturday night.

The blaze was started by lightning striking the house about 7 p.m. Saturday, according to St. Clair Shores Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Witt.

The lightning caused a hole in the roof, and when firefighters arrived, flame and smoke was showing.

Witt said crews were able to bring the fire under control with minimal damage to the house. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, according to Witt.
