St. Clair Shores Break In Suspect Pleads Guilty

One of three men charged in series of break-ins in the southern end of St. Clair Shores pleaded guilty Monday in Macomb Circuit Court.

A 48-year-old St. Clair Shores man pleaded guilty Monday in Macomb Circuit Court to n the southern end of the city.

Robert Morey appeared before Macomb Circuit Court Judge David Viviano for a pre-trial hearing, and pleaded guilty to charges of home invasion, attempted home invasion and receiving and concealing stolen property. 

When the judge asked him about specific dates of the incidents, his attorney George Stechschulte stated, "I don't think he made any mental note ... I think he may have been under the influence of drugs."

Morey stated that he may have been smoking pot, using cocaine, Vicodin and Xanax at the time of the break-ins and attempted break-in.

While he couldn't recall exact details, he did confirm that he was involved in break-ins on:

  • Dec. 21 - Mauer,
  • Jan. 5 - Gaukler,
  • Feb. 11 - Edmunton,
  • Feb. 25 - Mauer
  • Feb. 27 - Edmunton,
  • March 18 - Star Valley,
  • March 2 - Grove 

Morey is one of three men who police allege were involved in dozens of that occurred in neighborhoods east of Beaconsfield, and north of Old Eight Mile.

He is being held on $700,000 bond in the Macomb County Jail until his June 19 sentencing date. Morey faces at least six years in prison.

Gantay Reynolds, 19, and Cordney Stewart, 22, of St. Clair Shores, were arrested in connection with the break-ins. Stewart was found incompetent to stand trial and will be sent to a state facility for treatment.

Reynolds is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and receiving and concealing stolen property. He is being held in the Macomb County Jail on $50,000 bond.
