St. Clair Shores Mom Sent to Jail for Providing Alcohol to Teens

A 42-year-old St. Clair Shores mother is sentenced to 10 days in the Macomb County Jail for providing wine coolers to teens in her apartment.

A St. Clair Shores mother will spend at least 10 days in the Macomb County Jail for providing wine coolers to her 13-year-old daughter and her daughter's friend at a post-homecoming game party.

A tearful Michelle Turczynski was led out of Tuesday after she was sentenced by Judge Jospeh Oster on two counts of delinquency of a minor for who attended a sleepover party at her apartment in the Harper and Violet area.

"I think you created an atmosphere for the girls to think it was OK to drink," Oster said. "I can't imagine a scenario where it is OK to give a 13-year-old daughter alcohol. In my world, that is topsy-turvy where the children are driving the bus."

Oster placed her in jail for 10 days, and Turczynski could face an additional 20 days if she does not follow the terms of her probation. She will be on probation for a total of 12 months.

"If the parent isn't in control of the household, the daughter has no chance," Oster said. "Children need structure, they need rules, they need consequences."

After Turczynski went to bed on the night of her party, her boyfriend Ronnie Glenn Hill is alleged to have fondled one of the attendees. He is charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and four counts of contributing to a delinquency of a minor.

Her attorney, Thomas McHugh, stated that the alleged incident happened after she went to bed.

McHugh tried to separate the two incidents, and despite his client's clean record, he was unsuccessful in avoiding jail time for Turczynski.

"It appears that there is some fault or blame being attached to Michelle for what happened ... after she had gone to bed," he said. "I don't believe (jail is) appropriate under the circumstances in this case."

When offered to speak before sentencing, Turczynski declined to comment.

Hill will have a pretrial conference on Dec. 6 in 40th District Court.
