St. Clair Shores Police Involved in a Pair of High Speed Chases

The following information is gathered from the St. Clair Shores Police Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

High speed chase

St. Clair Shores police officers responded Dec. 17 to a call from a 72-year-old resident in the 21900 block of Grand Lake for a report of a purse that was stolen by someone entering through a window. As officers investigated the reported break-in, other officers became involved in a high-speed chase reaching 60 mph through neighborhoods north of 9 Mile Road with a vehicle driven by a person believed to be involved in the robbery.

Officers began following the car westbound on 9 Mile from Jefferson, and in the course of the chase, the right passenger tire came off. The chase continued through an alley at 9 Mile and Harper before it came to a stop at Elaine and Harper after the car's engine blew.

The driver of the car, a 22-year-old Roseville resident, was arrested for fleeing and eluding police.

Breaking and entering

St. Clair Shores police were called about noon, Dec. 19, for a reported break-in in progress in the 25500 block of Culver. Police said the reported break-in involved three males who backed into the driveway of a home in a grey, four-door vehicle. Prior to the arrival of officers, the vehicle fled toward 10 Mile Road. When police officers arrived at the home, they found open drawers and overturned items. An iPod, jewelry, laptop computer, television and video game systems were reported stolen.

Officers on patrol spotted the car, stolen out of Clinton Township, on I-94 and began a pursuit which accelerated to speeds around 90 mph. The vehicle exited at Outer Drive, and eluded police in a neighborhood. Witnesses reported seeing three black males, between 18-20 years old with slender to medium builds. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call St. Clair Shores Police at 586-445-5300.

Chase through "Tangletown"

St. Clair Shores police were notified Dec. 19 that Roseville Police were seeking a suspect in a reported domestic violence incident. The suspect had fled on foot in the area of Masonic and St. Margaret. Officers spotted the suspect on Arrowhead and then in the parking lot of St. Margaret Church. Officers attempted to make contact with the 23-year-old Detroit man, but he fled. He ran through yards on Arrowhead and Willow Wisp as officers followed. With the assistance of a K9 unit, he was found on the garage roof in 21400 block of Willow Wisp Ct. He jumped off the garage, and fled a short distance before he was arrested and turned over to Roseville officers.
