Police Blotter: Weapons, Attempted Burglaries

police are investigating the attempted burglary of a home in the 27800 block of Larchmont Street. The resident called police after she said she saw two men from a landscaping truck approach her home and then heard a screen being slid out of place. She yelled at the man and he immediately stopped doing anything with the bathroom window. Then the pair casually walked away to the landscaping truck before leaving the area. A neighbor reported seeing the men approach, noting one knocked on the front door with a piece of paper in his hand while the other went around to the back of the house. She noted they left fairly quickly, according to a report.

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the possible break-in of a vacant home on Rosedale Street after a neighbor contacted the listing agent March 24 because she noticed five screens had been cut out. The agent went to the home but did not find any damage or anything missing from inside, according to a report.

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of about $3,500 worth of jewelry from a home in the 22700 block of Millenbach. The jewelry's owner said she left her house to run an errand and returned to find that her jewelry was stolen from her dresser. The jewelry included a ring, two bracelets, and two pairs of earrings, according to a report.

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the burglary of a home in the 28000 block of Glenwood Street reported March 26. A woman called police saying the home belongs to her mother who recently died and other family members from whom she has been estranged for several years wanted the mother's violin. A window appeared to have been entered and the only thing missing from the home was the violin, according to a report.

Gun Investigations: 1 Stolen, 1 to be Destroyed

St. Clair Shores police will destroy a handgun after being called to a home March 23 related to its theft. The woman who called police said she was trying to sell her dead boyfriend's handgun and her friend from narcotics anonymous took it without paying for it. He told her he wanted to teach his 6-year-old son how to shoot. The friend was located and he explained he took the gun after the woman threatened to kill herself. Since the gun belonged to a person who is no longer alive, police confiscated the gun and it will be destroyed, according to a report.

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of a shotgun from a car parked in the 22400 block of Maple. The weapon was stolen between March 21 and 25. The shotgun information has been entered into a police database, according to a report.

St. Clair Shores police were called to CVS on 24001 Harper Ave. March 23 after a man entered the store and attempted to steal 24 packs of gum and a pack of condoms valued at $85. An employee saw the man trying to hide the items in his clothing, confronted him after he exited the store without paying and he came back inside, gave up the items and then left again, according to a report.

Stolen Vehicles Under Investigation

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of a 2000 GMC Sierra from the driveway of a home in the 20100 block of Avalon Street. The owner arrived home from work about 3:30 a.m. March 22 and his wife woke at 5:45 a.m. the same day to discover his truck was no longer in the driveway. The man told police the truck had been paid off and was insured. He also provided police with all the sets of keys to the truck. No evidence, such as broken glass, was found at the scene, according to a report.

In another case, St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 from the 22100 block of Edmunton Street. The truck was parked there overnight and the owner discovered it missing early March 24, according to a report.

Motorist Stopped for Driving on Flat Tires

St. Clair Shores police stopped an 18-year-old woman who was driving to the police station on two flat tires to report they had been slashed. A patrol officer spotted the vehicle driving on Little Mack and stopped it because of the flat tires March 22. The woman told the officer she called to report her tires had been slashed and was instructed to drive to the station, which she was doing. She left the car at the police station until the next morning when a relative was to help her, according to a report.

Video Game System Stolen During School Pick-Up

The mother of a reported the theft of her son's handheld video game system from her car March 27. The theft happened during pick-up at school and the game system was left in the car, which was unlocked for about half an hour, according to a report.
