Police Blotter: Shores Officers Involved in Chase

St. Clair Shores police attempt to stop a stolen car driven by a man who was eventually involved in a shooting with police.

St. Clair Shores police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle Sunday night driven by a 21-year-old Sterling Heights resident that eventually was involved in a shooting with Roseville police.

Police from St. Clair Shores attempted to stop the vehicle about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle had been reported stolen in a carjacking in Detroit, according to Dept. Chief James Berlin of the Roseville Police Department.

The man fled the scene and sped into Roseville, where the driver lost control and crashed near Martin and Gratiot. The suspect fled on foot, but was tracked by a police K-9 to a vehicle in the area of Roseville Boulevard and Pinehurst.

In a release, Berlin stated that as officers approached the vehicle several gunshots were fired from the vehicle at the responding officers. No officers from the Shores or Roseville were hurt in the chase or exchange of gunfire. The suspect was taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital by the Roseville Fire Department and is in serious condition.

The man is also believed to have kidnapped his 21-year-old former girlfriend from
a gas station in the 13 Mile and Little Mack area. The Roseville resident was in the stolen van at the time of the incident and was not hurt as a result of the kidnapping and crash.

Detectives of the Roseville Police Department are investigating the incident. Charges are pending.
