Police Blotter: Sentencing for Serial Robber Delayed

Police also investigate wallet thefts and explosive devices in mailboxes.

Sentencing delayed

A 40-year-old Detroit man who was to be sentenced Tuesday in a string of robberies in St. Clair Shores was adjourned because Macomb Circuit Court Judge David Viviano was related to one of the victims. Kory Kordell Smith pleaded guilty in March to three counts of breaking and entering with the intent to rob, and one count of possession of burglary tools, for breaking into Liquor and Wine Shop, and n January and stealing money. He was also suspected to be involved in the robbery of Flower Shop. His new sentencing date is May 3.

Purse thefts

St. Clair Shores police are investigating a pair of reported thefts from purses at restaurant early Sunday. A 48-year-old Fraser resident reported that she left her purse on a stool at the restaurant and noticed her leather shoulder purse was missing. Also, a 23-year-old St. Clair Shores resident also reported that an unknown suspect went into her purse and removed her wallet from her purse.

Alleged pregnant thief

Police are looking for a pregnant woman, and her male companion, who are alleged to have attempted to steal MP3 players and baby formula Friday afternoon from a at 24001 Harper. The couple, in their early 20s, are alleged to placed the items in a bag and fled the store. The store manager attempted to stop the couple, and the woman dropped the items.

Alleged mailbox bombers

Police are investigating a mailbox on the 28100 block of Larchmont that was blown up with homemade explosives Friday night. Police were called to the home, and while they were investigating, heard an explosion in a nearby park. Officers searched the area and questioned teens at a nearby home. The investigation is ongoing.
