Police Blotter: Prescription Fraud Nets Arrest

The following information is gathered from the St. Clair Shores police department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

St. Clair Shores police arrested a 22-year-old Warren man shortly before midnight on March 31 for prescription fraud. Officers were called to , 21211 Harper Ave., by a pharmacist reporting he had a person who was trying to fill a fraudulent prescription. Officers found the man upon responding and detained him. An interview with the pharmacist revealed he had received the exact same prescription from another person earlier in the week. In addition,  the doctor who allegedly wrote the prescription no longer practices medicine but a prescription pad had been stolen from the office. The man who filled the prescription of oxycontin admitted the prescription was fraudulent and officers took the pills, prescription and other information into evidence. The man was charged with fraud, according to a report.

Purse, Coat Stolen from Cars in Gym Parking Lot

St. Clair Shores police are investigating two thefts from vehicles reported April 3 in the parking lot of the former —now LA Fitness. Both vehicle owners discovered the thefts after leaving the workout facility. One woman had her purse and its contents stolen. The other victim had a coat stolen, according to reports.

Skid Steer Stolen from Parking Lot

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of a skid steer from a trucking company valued at $42,000. The skid steer was stolen from the parking lot of at Jefferson and Marter sometime between March 26 to April 1, according to a report.

Tools, Bicycle Stolen from Garage

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of several items from a garage in the 22300 block of Stephens Road. The homeowner reported the theft April 3 after noticing the items were gone. He believes they were stolen between 5:50 to 9 p.m. that day and said they may have entered the garage through an unlocked door. The items stolen include a bicycle, wrenches, screwdrivers, ratchets, an air compressor, a snowblower, a snapper and a pressure washer.

Bicycle Theft Ends in Retail Fraud Charge

St. Clair Shores police arrested a 30-year-old Detroit man March 30 after he stole a bicycle from on Harper Avenue. Officers received a call from the owner of the business reporting the theft. Officers found the man on the bike a few minutes later, returned it to the business and arrested the man on a charge of retail fraud, according to a report.

Car Reported Stolen

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of a car from the 20900 block of East 12 Mile Road on April 30. The owner parked it there about 11 a.m. and returned to the location about 1 p.m. but it was  no longer there. The woman said her car was paid off and it also had her cell phone, a check and two stuffed animal dogs on the dashboard, according to a report.

Resident Discovers, Reports Credit Fraud

A 49-year-old St. Clair Shores resident reported credit fraud to police March 30 after discovering an account opened with an energy company with an address in Sterling Heights. The woman told police it had an unpaid balance from 2009 and she has never lived in Sterling Heights, nor does she know anyone who lives at the address used, according to a report.
