Police Blotter: Police Arrest Alleged Liquor Thief

The suspect was arrested in Detroit by Grosse Pointe police.

Liquor, toilet paper and a chase

A 38-year-old Detroit resident is being held in the Macomb County Jail on $1,000 bond on retail fraud charges for allegedly stealing a hand-held cart full of liquor and toilet paper from the Rite Aid on Marter. Martis Mootry allegedly walked out of the store with a cart full of items without paying for them. St. Clair Shores Police were called, and officers broadcast a description of his vehicle to neighboring departments. Grosse Pointe Farms police located the vehicle near Mack and Moross, where Mootry sped away. A short pursuit began but was stopped quickly, according to Farms police. A short time later Grosse Pointe Park police spotted the van near Wayburn and Morang. Mootry was arrested after he parked the car in Detroit and a short foot chase. A preliminary exam date has not been scheduled.
