Police Blotter: Officer Finds Missing Woman

St. Clair Shores Police found a missing 90-year-old woman huddled in the doorway of local school.

St. Clair Shores Police used teamwork and officer intuition to locate a missing 90-year-old woman early Thursday morning.

Police received a call about 5 a.m. from a homeowner in the north end of St. Clair Shores who woke up because dogs barking outside. When the homeowner looked for her 90-year-old mother, she discovered she was missing.

Officers were dispatched to the home and area around Heatherwood Street to search for the woman.

Lt. David Chavis, who was the command officer on duty, joined in the search and checked the .

Chavis drove around the school once, and then conducted one more survey of the school and found her in vestibule on the north side of the school, according to St. Clair Shores Deputy Police Chief Glenn Bowlin.

The woman was found in the 20-degree weather only wearing a nightgown, with no shoes and her feet were bleeding.

"Everyone worked together and saved her life," said Bowlin, who credited all the officers who responded quickly to find the woman.

She was taken to St. John Macomb Hospital.
