Police Blotter: High Speed Chase and Video Game Thefts

The following information is gathered from the St. Clair Shores Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

High speed chase

St. Clair Shores police are continuing to search for the driver of a car that led them on a high-speed chase on I-94 and Detroit late Thursday night. An officer on westbound I-94 observed a blue Cadillac allegedly speeding. The officer attempted to stop the car, but driver continued and exited the expressway at Moross. The officer continued to follow the vehicle onto side streets, before breaking off the pursuit.

Banquet hall assault

A 23-year-old from Warren was hit over the head with a glass goblet Aug. 13 outside of the banquet center. A 25-year-old man is alleged to have bumped into a female friend of the victim, and after being confronted, the men got into a fight. The fight was broken up, but the suspect ended up striking the Warren man over the head with a glass goblet and then stabbing at his head. Police are searching for the suspect, and the victim was treated for his injuries. 

Video game theft

A 12-year-old Detroit boy is alleged to have tried to steal video games from on Aug. 13. The boy is alleged to have placed the games in his pants and attempted to walk out of the store without paying. He was released to his parents who were also shopping in the store.

The following day a 17-year-old Eastpointe man was arrested for allegedly trying to steal a video game from Kmart, also by trying to hide the game in his pocket. Charges are pending in both cases.

Counterfeit cash

A 24-year-old Detroit man was arrested Aug. 13 after allegedly trying to pass fake $50 bills at bar. The man is alleged to have twice ordered drinks and paid with fake $50 bills. After he was arrested on uttering and publishing charges, police found individually wrapped bags of marijuana. Darryle Berry is free on bond and will have an Aug. 30 preliminary exam in St. Clair Shores District Court.

Suspicious person in the park 

Police are investigating a report that two young men pulled a knife Aug. 14 on two teenage girls in a park in the 22400 block of Overlake. The men were allegedly making racial slurs before one pulled a pocket knife and pointed it in the face of one of the girls. The men left without incident.
