Police Agencies To Have Extra Patrols For Thanksgiving Eve

Police agencies across Macomb County will be extra vigilant this holiday weekend for drunk drivers.

Police departments across Macomb County will have extra patrols on the road Wednesday night, and throughout the holiday weekend.

"We will be on the lookout for those who drink too much," said St. Clair Shores Police Lt. Steve Lambert, who recommends those who head out to have a designated driver.

Additionally, motorists are traveling over the weekend are reminded to be watchful for deer crossing the roads. With the drop in temperatures and with hunting season in full swing, the deer are much more active. At this time of year,there is a marked increase in the number of car/deer collisions this time of year.

So far in November, there have been 40 car/deer crashes in the northern part of Macomb County. Two of those crashes resulted in injuries to the driver or vehicle occupants.

By comparison, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office investigated 43 car/deer crashes in November 2012. Those crashes resulted in injuries to three vehicle occupants.

There were 19 car/deer crashes in the month of Oct. 2013 according to a release.
