Men Arrested After Alleged Fourth of July Chase

Two men arrested after allegedly stealing a small motorcycle Monday.

Two men are being held in the Macomb County Jail after allegedly stealing a scooter on Monday and then leading police on a chase through a neighborhood. 

Randy Mahaffey, 22, of Clinton Township, and Terrence Chabers, 22, of Encinitas, CA, were allegedly spotted Monday lifting a moped over the fence of a home in the 22300 block of 10 Mile.

According to police reports, the men fled the area in a white minivan and were later located at an apartment complex on Englehardt and Mack.

When the men spotted the officers, they fled into the neighborhood. With the assistance of neighbors, the men were arrested according to police reports.

The men were arraigned Wednesday before Magistrate Mark Metry on breaking and entry with intent to steal, a 10-year felony, and obstructing a police officer, a 2-year felony.

Pleas of not guilty were entered on their behalf, and they are both being held on $7,500 bond, and are not to have contact with the victims. 

They will have a pre-exam conference on July 15.
