The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident early Friday morning in Harrison Township.
The father of an 18-year-old Clinton Township man called the Macomb County Sheriff's Office after his son was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon without a license. Deputies located vehicle driving slowly without any lights and tried to stop the Yukon.
The driver accelerated at a high rate of speed, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office, and tried to enter eastbound Interstate 94 from 16 Mile Road.
The driver lost control of the Yukon, which caused it to roll multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital, and is being held under guard pending criminal charges, according to the sheriff's office.
The passenger, Donald Larrel Smelser-Emerson, 21, of Harrison Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.
