A 21-year-old Detroit man who led St. Clair Shores police on a high-speed chase that reached 130 mph was arraigned Thursday in .

Police allege Jaime Salinas was one of three men who were seen April 10 breaking into a home in the 29300 block of Rosebriar and stole two jewelry boxes filled with items valued at more than $20,000, according to St. Clair Shores police Detective Margaret Eidt.

A witness saw the men leave home about 2 p.m. and contacted police with a description of the Chevy Impala. The vehicle fled on westbound Interstate 94, and was spotted by a St. Clair Shores officers who began a pursuit.

The chase reached speeds of 130 mph before the engine of the suspect's car blew, according to police. The car stopped near Outer Drive and Harper and the men fled from the car.

Officers from St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe, Harper Woods, Detroit, Michigan State Police and the Border Patrol were involved in the chase and search. Salinas was found in a burned-out home, and had to be extracted through the roof.

"The court is very concerned about the allegations here," said Judge Joseph Oster, who felt Salinas endangered the community. "I feel there needs to be a very substantial bond in this case."

Salinas is being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $200,000 bond on felony charges of home invasion, receiving stolen property, fleeing an officer, malicious destruction of police property, resisting and obstructing an officer and a misdemeanor charge of malicious destruction of a building. If convicted, he could spend up to 15 years in jail.

Salinas will return to court April 20 for a pre-exam conference. Eidt said police are working to determine if the men were involved in other break-ins in the city, and locate the other men alleged to be involved in the Rosebriar case.
