Coyote Sighting in Grosse Pointe Woods

A coyote has reportedly been seen in Grosse Pointe Woods, and possibly near the southern border of St. Clair Shores.

Grosse Pointe Woods has issued a Nixle alert after a coyote was been sighted in the area of Torrey and Elford Court, and readers stated they have seen a coyote near the southern border of St. Clair Shores. 

Grosse Pointe Woods police are recommending residents "watch small pets when you put them outside," according to the post.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources shares the following recommendations if a residents spots a coyote: 

  • Never approach or touch a coyote
  • Never intentionally feed a coyote
  • Eliminate all outside food sources, especially pet foods
  • Put garbage out the morning of pickup day
  • Clear out wood and brush piles; they are good habitat for rats and mice and may attract coyotes
  • Good husbandry practices, guard animals, and coyote control measures can help to protect livestock
  • Do not allow pets to roam free when coyotes are present - consider keeping pets indoors or accompany them outside, especially at night
A reader posted on the Grosse Pointe Patch Facebook that she saw a coyote near the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House.
