Court Hearing for Murder Suspect Adjourned

A 63-year-old St. Clair Shores man charged in a 2011 fatal shooting will have a preliminary exam in late July.

The preliminary exam Tuesday in 40th District Court for 63-year-old St. Clair Shores charged in a 2011 murder has been adjourned until late July.

Viktor Shaholli is charged in the Nov. 20, 2011 fatal shooting of Dashamir Matjani on Recreation Street.

The case has been on hold as lawyers have argued over if he was competent to stand trial.

On June 21, 40th District Court Judge Mark Fratarcangeli ruled Shaholli was competent to stand trial. He will return to court on July 26 for his preliminary exam on first-degree murder and felony firearm charges.

Shaholli, a native of Albania who holds a green card, could face life in prison if convicted. He is being held without bond in the Macomb County Jail, according to jail documents.
