Two people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Thursday after they were thrown into Lake St. Clair when their personal watercraft ran aground in the Middle Channel.
Crewmembers on a TowBoat U.S. boat notified a radio watchstander at Coast Guard Station St. Clair Shores that they had the two individuals, whose names and hometowns were not released, aboard the vessel and they needed medical attention.
The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat and transferred the people, who were wearing life jackets when they fell in the water, to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources boat ramp in the Clinton River for medical attention.
According to a release, the two people were treated and released.
“The Coast Guard recommends that you wear a life jacket and be alert and aware while on the water,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Zachary Griepsma, officer-of-the-day at Station St. Clair Shores, in a release. “Life jackets help save lives but only if you are wearing one.”
