Two Children Rescued On Lake St. Clair

Multiple agencies responded Monday to a rescue on Lake St. Clair.

Two young children were rescued on Lake St. Clair Monday after their father was thrown from their small boat and it drifted away.

The father took his children, 3- and 4-years-old, for a ride on a small, outboard boat on Lake St. Clair, according to St. Clair Shores Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Krotche.

The boat stalled near the 9 Mile tower, and the father was thrown from into the 46-degree water as four-foot waves struck the boat.

The father swam to shore, and the boat drifted to the area of Jefferson Beach Marina, where it became anchored.

A person in the tower saw the drifting boat, and contacted building security which contacted 911.

The U.S. Coast Guard located the boat with the two children as it was taking on water. The children were rescued without incident. The children were transported to shore at Brownie's on the Lake, where St. Clair Shores EMS was waiting.

Neither child was injured, and they were taken to their father who was at Shore Club apartments. The Macomb County Sheriff's Department, St. Clair Shores Police and the U.S. Border Patrol also responded.

The incident is under investigation.
