Death Row is Haunting

Capital punishment or death penalty is where a person is sent to death row as punishment for a crime. Capital punishment uses cruel ways of execution such as lethal injections, affects not only the individual who is sentenced to death row but also their friends and family, and there is a risk for problems that might happen while performing the execution. First went through statistics to get an idea where the states lie in the process of the death penalty.

            The majority of the states in the west have the death penalty and the majority of the states in the east do not. There are currently 35 states that have legalized the death penalty. The total number of executions in the United States since 1976 is approximately 1,348. There have actually been 130 people set onto death row that have been released with evidence of their innocence. 65% of people support the death penalty, which is where I thought I fell under until I did my research. For the people who feel that racism plays a part of whether or not a person gets put on death row it definitely does not. 56% of people executed by a death sentence are white people, while 35% are blacks, 7% Hispanic, and 2% other. So the statistics show that racism does not play a part in executions.
