Fireworks and Your Pets

Pets and fireworks.

The annual is next week and hence begins the season of fireworks around SCS.

Many pets are afraid of these unexpected loud noises and will seek a place to hide. Please be mindful that they will panic and run out a door or jump a fence, etc to try to get away from the noise. I have been called to help find many dogs who bolted out of an open door or gate during this season. Make sure your pet is secure and has a place to go, basement, bathroom a crate, etc.

Also be aware some dogs and especially young puppies will chew on leftover used fireworks. There are chemicals that are toxic to our pets in these spent fireworks. Pick up after yourself and check your yard for any fireworks which may have landed there.

Please keep in mind that many pets have a difficult time during this season. Be kind to your pet and your neighbors pets. Keep your own fireworks displays to legal fireworks in the state of Michigan (non flying type) and to a minimum or not at all. There are plenty of professional displays in the area. Be safe.
