JMS Students Raise $1,300 for Save the Children Foundation

6th Graders raised over $1,300 for charity as part of an Africa Service Project

6th grade Accelerated Social Studies students at Jefferson Middle School
in Lakeview Public Schools had an opportunity to explore social issues in Africa
in a unique way. Teams of students researched various issues and used different
forms of technology to present their findings to the class. Students then voted
on the problem they felt was the most devastating to this region. They decided
to partner with Save the Children, a charity organization that works to fight
hunger in Africa and other parts of the world. A fundraising goal was set at
$300.00 for this service project. Students organized bake sales during school
and during parent-teacher conferences. They also hosted a Penny War, in which
T2R classes competed to collect the most pennies. With the support of JMS
students, parents, and staff, these 6th graders raised a total of $1,306.59.
Students are excited to make a charitable donation to Save the Children to help
an excellent cause!
