Friends Hold Vigil for Lakeview Graduate

A candlelight vigil will be held for Heather Wendt, who recently had her second double lung transplant, on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Blossom Heath in St. Clair Shores.

Friends and family plan to hold a candlelight vigil for Heather Wendt, a 38-year-old woman who had her second double-lung transplant, on Thursday night at 8 p.m. at the Blossom Heath gazebo in St. Clair Shores.

Wendt, a Lakeview High School graduate, had the surgery Wednesday night, and she is recovering well, according to friend Anji Lapensee.

“Heather has Rh-negative blood which is very rare so it was very hard to find lungs to match her blood type,” Lapensee said in an email. “She was pretty much living on borrowed time when she got this second miracle!! As of right now, the second transplant was a success but we need to continue to pray that these new lungs keep working with her body.”

Lapensee said the vigil wants to send prayers to Wendt and raise awareness about becoming an organ donor.

MyFoxDetroit.com reports that Wendt had her first double-lung transplant on Sept. 8.
