The St. Clair Shores Department of Public Works celebrated Arbor Day with the planting of four trees Friday at Violet Elementary School.

First-grade students from Violet Elementary School joined St. Clair Shores Department of Public Works employees Friday to plant trees in honor of Arbor Day.

The students and city employees planted two chanticleer and two sugar cone maple trees along Evergreen Street, where a large willow tree once stood at the school

"It's very important the children learn to take care of the Earth," said Elizabeth Netschke, Violet principal.
