Volunteers Shop For Gifts for Cops For Kids

Community service groups and businesses across St. Clair Shores have spent the past year raising funds to help make Cops for Kids a success, and ensure families in the city have a Christmas dinner and presents under the tree this year.

Volunteers from across St. Clair Shores descended on Kmart Friday to shop for gifts for nearly 300 children receiving Christmas gifts from Cops for Kids.

The charity was founded by police officers John St. Germane and Fred Marengo 37 years ago when the officers responded to a call to a home on Christmas and found the children did not have any presents.

The officers went to their homes and brought gifts back to the house which began a tradition of helping families in need throughout the year in St. Clair Shores.

This year over 100 families, and 300 children, will receive Christmas presents and gift cards from the charity. These include a family on Yale which was the victim of a fire Wednesday.
