Students, County Personnel To Help Fight Hunger In Macomb

Volunteers across Macomb County will help fight hunger Thursday.

Students the three high schools in St. Clair Shores will join county personnel Thursday in helping fight hunger in Macomb County on National Food Day.

Representatives of the Macomb County Health Department met with members of the Shorewood Kiwanis Club of St. Clair Shores, and students, at South Lake High Wednesday to prepare for the Kids Against Hunger food packaging event. 

Volunteers from the Health Department’s Healthy Communities Program and local high schools will package food Thursday at St. Margaret of Scotland. The goal is to package 10,000 meals, according to a release.

Additional events on National Food Day include:

  • Macomb County Community Services Agency (MCCSA) will be placing food collection boxes at several county facilities for employees to donate food to benefit the Macomb Food Program. Non-perishable and high protein foods will be accepted.
  • MSUE will demonstrate container vegetable gardening at the Center Line office of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program throughout the day. WIC will also distribute vegetable seed kits to all families receiving services Thursday.
